Otar Shamugia: "Farmers who benefited from targeted support program last year have a better crop yield this year."

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  Otar Shamugia, along with the State Representative of Guria region,   Mr. Giorgi Urushadze, got acquainted with the delivery process of hazelnuts and met the hazelnut nut farmers in Lanchkhuti Municipality, village Kvemo Aket,

According to the Minister, farmers who benefited from targeted support program support last year have a better harvest this year.

"We heard from farmers that those who received targeted assistance had a good, quality harvest, even better than last year. Overall, we expect a considerably larger harvest this year. A financial contribution of GEL 500 GEL per acre is sufficient to carry out the treatment 4-5 times. This was a significant contribution, and I believe that if farmers take care of hazelnuts even more this year, we will have a greater and better crop in the coming years, " said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

"We met with the hazelnut farmers in the hazelnut storage enterprise in the Aketi village, along with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia. I would encourage our hazelnut farmers to take full advantage of the state funds and opportunities for promoting hazelnut production and to have high-quality products that will be competitive in the domestic and international markets," Mr. Giorgi Urushadze said.

The members of the Hazelnut Producers Association spoke about the importance of the state programs promoting the development of the hazelnut industry.

The meeting took place in a modern hazelnut storage facility that can store up to 1,000 tonnes of hazelnuts.

The company "G-H-G-A Commercial" LLC is a beneficiary of the project "Co-financing of agricultural products processing and storage enterprises" of the Rural Development Agency. Overall, more than GEL 1 million was invested in the enterprise, of which more than GEL 390,000 is a state grant, and GEL 390,000 is a preferential agro-credit.

The Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr.  Davit Tsitlidze, Majoritarian MP of Ozurgeti-Lanchkhuti-Chokhatauri Municipalities, Mr. Vasil Chigogidze, representatives of the local government, and the Chairman of the Hazelnut Producers Association, attended the meeting with the farmers.
