Solomon Pavliashvili participated in the 67th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  Solomon Pavliashvili, participated in the 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. High-ranking officials of the IAEA member states, and about 3,000 delegates attended the conference.

 

The delegates re-elected Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi as the Director General of the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency for another four-year term.

 

Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi summarized the results of the agency's four years of activities, emphasizing the global challenges in nuclear and radiation safety, the role of nuclear energy in mitigating climate change, and the importance of nuclear technology in reducing plastic pollution. 

 

According to Mr. Grossi, the IAEA is an instrument for peace, security, and sustainable development. In 2022 alone, the IAEA assisted 149 countries and territories in food and agriculture, health and nutrition, and nuclear safety.

 

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lasha Darsalia, the Ambassador of Georgia to Austria, Mrs. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, and representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency attended the conference on behalf of Georgia.
During the conference, Georgia aligned with the statement of the European Union, emphasizing the importance of the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency in ensuring radiation protection, nuclear safety, and security.
