Ensure the Protection and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity to address in the conference format.

 

Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, participated in the conference on ensuring biodiversity protection and sustainable use.

 

"Our country has made significant progress toward biodiversity protection and preservation, which implies the expansion of protected areas networks and the development of national and framework legislation. I would also mention that the new draft law on biodiversity drafted in compliance with the Association Agreement to protect our country's unique nature is nearing completion." said the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

According to the Acting Head of Development Cooperation and Counselor at the Embassy of Sweden in Georgia, Mrs. Eva Atterlöv Frisell, In the face of climate change, the biggest challenge of our time is the protection and preservation of biodiversity.
"Under climate change conditions, we see the effects of biodiversity loss everywhere, including the South Caucasus and Georgia. The sustainable use of natural resources and preserving nature are crucial for future generations. The Swedish government is pleased to establish close cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in this direction. The best example of this cooperation is the project "Save Nature-Georgia," which has been running since 2021", said Mrs. Eva Atterlöv Frisell.
Representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, relevant agencies of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, international and local sectoral organizations, and experts attended the conference.

 

"The conference is a good opportunity to discuss environmental issues jointly with scientific circles, stakeholders, and government representatives, with the involvement of the Parliament of Georgia. The Parliament of Georgia is ready to hold discussions on the Law on Biodiversity. It is crucial that the country prepares to uphold National standards while also making significant and ambitious efforts toward fulfilling international obligations," said the Deputy Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mrs. Khatia Tsilosani.
