During the meeting, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and Mr. Alkis Vryenios Drakinos, the new Regional Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the Caucasus (EBRD, discussed the waste management, irrigation system development, and climate change-related challenges.
The conversation also touched upon the prospects of future cooperation between the parties.
Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili congratulated the new regional director of the EBRD in the South Caucasus on starting the work and wished him success.
"We have been cooperating fruitfully in many different directions with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which has extensive experience. I want to bring specific emphasis to cooperation in the waste management field. We are now working on a hazardous waste management project. This project is essential because, as you are aware, hazardous waste management is linked to public health, environmental protection, and current agricultural measures. Therefore, it is crucial to efficiently manage hazardous waste in the country and share worldwide best practices. We work actively with our team.
Moreover, we faced particular challenges but tried our best to overcome them, and the process is now moving forward. On the one hand, this is a national issue; on the other, fulfilling obligations on the path to European integration is critical. We are open to new opportunities and partnerships. We hope that our cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be further strengthened, " said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.
Mr. Alkis Vryenios Drakinos expressed his support for Georgia and emphasized the importance of future cooperation.Â
