Yuri Nozadze attended the opening event of the project "Biosphere Reserves as Model Regions for Sustainable Development in Georgia."

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Yuri Nozadze attended the opening event of the project "Biosphere Reserves as Model Regions for Sustainable Development in Georgia."


"Last year, for the first time in Georgia, UNESCO recognized and included the "Dedoplistskaro Biosphere Reserve" and the "Sami Alazani Biosphere Reserve" on the global list of biosphere reserves. With the support of the German government, the implementation of the process has already launched, implying that special attention will be paid to the territories with the status, both in terms of biodiversity protection and sustainable agricultural development, which will contribute to strengthening the capacities of the municipalities", said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Yuri Nozadze.

 

As mentioned, the governing body will be established as part of the project "Biosphere Reserves as Model Regions for Sustainable Development in Georgia."

 

The mentioned project aims to strengthen the coordination and effectiveness in management.


The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, local government and non-governmental organizations attended the meeting.

 

The project is implemented by the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (Recc Caucasus) through the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
