Solomon Pavliashvili meets with Liu Hua, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
Within the 67th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, met with the Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Head of the Technical Cooperation Department, Mr. Hua Liu.

Georgia has been involved in the Agency's Technical Cooperation Program since 2000, through which the country's regulatory capabilities in radioactive waste management, food safety, healthcare, water resource management, and energy have been enhanced.

During the meeting, Mr. Hua Liu emphasized the progress achieved by Georgia, noting that the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is a strong regulatory body, and its activities and national regulatory framework comply with international obligations and standards.Â

Mr. Pavliashvili expressed gratitude to Mr. Hua Liu for his long-standing support for the country, in his turn, Mr. Liu reaffirmed his willingness to continue and deepen collaboration with the Georgian side.

Within the framework of the same conference, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili met with Mr. Michael Knochenhauer, Acting Director General at SSM / Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.Â

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili thanked the Kingdom of Sweden for many years of successful cooperation in nuclear security. Mr. Michael Knochenhauer expressed readiness to implement the national strategy for radioactive waste management and support the nuclear regulatory regime.

Within the conference, the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency on the National Nuclear Security Regime Assessment Mission was handed over to the Georgian delegation. The country hosted a two-week mission in April 2023. Mrs. Elena Buglova, Director of the IAEA Division of Nuclear Security, emphasized the results achieved in cooperation with Georgia and showed her willingness to extend support for Georgia. Mr. Pavliashvili openly underlined the importance of the nuclear security department's contribution to strengthening Georgia's national plans in response to modern challenges.Â
