The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the world's largest dedicated fund, helping developing countries to respond to climate change.

It should be mentioned that the initiative to support the forest sector in Georgia - the "ECO.Georgia" project was launched in 2021 with co-financing from the Green Climate Fund and the governments of Germany, Switzerland, and Georgia. The National Forestry Agency is the leading implementer of the project.
The initiative, which comprises eight target municipalities in three regions of Georgia, intends to reduce the pressure on Georgia's forests by adopting essential measures for sustainable forest management. The project will run till 2028.

During the visit to Georgia, the members of the delegation of the Green Climate Fund accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, representatives of the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC), the German Embassy and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), paid a visit to Kakheti region to get familiar with the activities carried out within the project - "ECO.Georgia."

The group learned about the current forest inventory and restoration works in the Kvareli municipality and inspected the "business yard" in the Khodasheni village, which was set and equipped with special equipment within the framework of the project.

The members of the delegation also visited the facility of energy-efficient stoves in Akhmeta. Promoting the development of the market of energy-efficient and alternative fuels is one of the directions of the project.

Based on the grant agreement signed between the National Forestry Agency and GIZ, forest inventory work is being carried out this year in the municipalities of Kvareli and Telavi on a total area of 98,000 ha, as a result of which ten-year forest management plans will be prepared.

Inventory works in Tianeti, Kvareli, Telavi, Dedoplistskaro, Chokhatauri, and Lanchkhuti municipalities cover a total area of 228,000 ha. 15 "business yards" were organized in the target municipalities as part of the project, and the renovation of the special purpose vehicle fleet, employee training, and forest maintenance and restoration activities are currently being carried out.
