Solomon Pavliashvili attends the opening of "Eco Summit 2023."
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, participated in the conference - "Eco Summit 2023 - Responsible Society for a Plastic-free City".

H.E. Anna Lyberg, Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia, made opening remarks at the conference, which aimed to promote eco-friendly production and encourage the reduction of consumption of single-use plastic products.

"Georgia is actively working in the field of waste management. As a result, we have a "Waste Management Code" developed together with EU experts. Currently, we are focused on recycling, and with the support of the Swedish government, we are working on the circular economy approach, which is a new platform for waste management.
The so-called ‘’Circular Economy Mapping in Georgia’’ was developed. Moreover, Georgia has joined the initiative ''High Ambition Coalition'' at the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Most importantly, we have adopted four regulations within the Extended Producer Responsibility system.
The country has a modern model of waste management, which was developed with the support of the European Union and the Swedish government," stated Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

Within the framework of the conference, the representatives of the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture presented the results of the activities carried out by the Ministry on environmental policy, covering environmental information and education, legal harmonization with the European Union, and the use of plastic.

"Eco Summit 2023" was held within the framework of the plastic-free week and organized with the funding of the Swedish State Agency, the Swedish Institute, with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Georgia. Sweden Alumni Network Georgia and (NNLE) "Trainers Association" have organized the event.Â
