Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia opens the annual meeting of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG).

The Minister discussed the current state of the Georgian wine industry, as well as the significance of Georgia's membership in the WWTG group.

"We are hosting an important event in Tbilisi, the meeting of the World Wine Trade Group, which is another good platform for promoting and raising awareness of Georgian wine;

We work jointly with the WWTG members to improve wine trade between the countries and to undertake joint measures regarding trade barriers. Georgia is a Chair country of the World Wine Trade Group for the second time this year. Georgia chaired the World Wine Trade Group for the first time in 2014. During the mentioned period, we made important decisions; I am confident that Georgia's presidency will be successful this year as well, which is essential for Georgian wine to further improve and strengthen its position in the global market.", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia.

The representatives of the member countries of the mentioned group, the USA, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, and South Africa, including the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Yuri Nozadze, the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Mr. Levan Mekhuzla and Mrs.Tina Kezeli, Executive Director of Association "Georgian Wine" attended the meeting.
In March 2023, the presidency of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) was passed over to Georgia from the United States of America for a one-year term during a WWTG meeting in Brussels.


The World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) is a group of government and industry representatives from the wine-producing countries of Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Georgia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States, and Uruguay.
The group aims to promote international trade in wine through information sharing, discussion of regulatory issues in wine markets, and joint action to remove trade barriers.

 

During the presidency of WWTG, the National Wine Agency has been the primary coordinator of the organization's activities.

 

Within the framework of the annual meeting, the participants will discuss issues related to the wine trade: Trade Agreements between Governments, Documents for Trade regulations, coordination with the World Trade Organization (WTO), sanitary and phytosanitary norms, labeling, the current state of the world wine industry, product packaging, agrochemicals,  resolutions of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), strengthening coordination between WWTG member countries, certificates of origin, wine additives and other issues related to the facilitation of wine trade between countries.
