Otar Shamugia meets the members of the Fruit Exporters Association.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, met with the members of the Fruit Exporters Association.Â
During the meeting, the participants addressed the challenges encountered in selling Georgian products, including the export growth potential.
Â
With the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture programs, the areas of cultivated orchards that have already entered the fructification phase, are increasing annually. Accordingly, we will have an annual crop yield growth rate, which further increases the income of local farmers, nonetheless, it is essential to sell the harvested product promptly, for which exporters should be ready. We are ready to support the interested people in finding new markets since the diversification of export markets is a priority of our state", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.
During the meeting, the parties were focused on the growing trend of berry orchards, particularly blueberry orchards, and the development of state-support programs, including the new program "State Co-financing Program of Refrigerated Storage Facilities for Berry Crops of Agricultural Cooperatives", which allows farmers to store perishable crops and gradually sell them in the desired markets.
Â
The members of the Fruit Exporters Association emphasized the state's support for the diversification of markets and expressed their wish to hold and participate actively in similar types of working meetings.
Â
The Deputy Ministers, Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze and Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, and the Head of the Food Policy Department, Mr.Tengiz Kalandadze, attended the meeting.
