The meetings are launched in the regions to inform locals about the new Law "On Water Resources Management"

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, made opening remarks at the First Forum on the new Law ‘’ On Water Resources Management’’ in the city of Zugdidi.


 The First Deputy Minister briefed representatives of the local self-government, businesses, and non-governmental sector of the municipalities of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region on the new law and answered all questions posed by the participants.

 

"The adoption of the Law on ‘’ Water Resources Management’’ is an important step forward in fulfilling the obligations stipulated by the EU Association Agenda. Our country is waiting for a historic decision. The fundamental reform in water resources management is of utmost importance. The enactment of the mentioned law is envisaged from 2026 and implies the involvement of local authorities in the processes. During the meeting, we discussed the main principles, tasks, and benefits the new law on ‘’Water Resources Management’’ will bring to the country. We will further continue meetings in different regions so that the local government will be prepared to embrace the new law," said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

 

The forum was held within the framework of the joint project of the USAID Economic Governance Program and the NGO "Environment and Development" - "Strengthen awareness and implementation of WRM law requirements in municipalities".

 

The Parliament of Georgia adopted the new Law ‘’On Water Resources Management’’ developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in 2023.
