A walnut and almond processing company was established with the support of the state and USAID.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia, Mrs. Robin Dunnigan, and State Representative of Kakheti region, Mr. Giorgi Aladashvili inspected a modern walnut and almond processing enterprise created with the financial support of the state and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Chumlakhi village, Gurjaani municipality. 

 

" The assistance of the US government for Georgia's agriculture sector is crucial. We jointly implement such projects, which will ultimately bring us more progress in the agricultural area", said the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.
According to Mrs. Robin Dunnigan, the US ambassador to Georgia, the walnut and almond processing enterprise is the result of close cooperation between the private and public sectors and USAID, aiming to strengthen local farmers, create jobs, and empower local farmers.

 

 ''Nuts Processing'' LTD invested GEL 3 million to create the enterprise, out of which GEL 500,000 is a grant from the Rural Development Agency; The company benefits from preferential agro-credit. The enterprise produces 600 tonnes of products. Currently, the manufactured products are sold in the domestic market; however, exporting products is also planned.

 

It is worth mentioning that the Rural Development Agency has assisted 15 walnut processing companies in arranging processing and storage facilities, with the state contributing exceeding GEL 7.1 million.
