Otar Shamugia meets with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Georgia.

During the meeting, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Georgia, Mrs. Bergljot Hovland discussed current projects and prospects for future cooperation. The conversation touched upon the management of water resources, utilization of renewable energy sources, development of aquaculture, and export of agricultural products.

 

Mr. Shamugia congratulated the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway on starting her activities in Georgia and wished her success.

 

"Georgia and Norway cooperate in several directions, including management of protected areas, waste, and water resources. However, there are other areas where the cooperation between the two countries might be expanded. Georgia has abundant water resources and great potential for aquaculture development, and we have already made significant efforts in this regard. Sharing and supporting Norway's experience in this matter is very important for us," said Mr. Otar Shamugia.
According to the Minister, Georgia is waiting for an important decision - to be granted the status of an EU candidate country and is implementing significant reforms on its path to European integration. 

 

Mr. Shamugia drew attention to the laws adopted by Georgia on water resources management and industrial emissions, projects to support farmers and entrepreneurs, and increased indicators of agro-food products, including wine production and export.

 

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Mrs. Bergljot Hovland, congratulated Georgia on the positive recommendation released by the European Commission on granting the status of an EU candidate country. The Ambassador spoke about the ongoing joint projects implemented by Georgia and Norway and emphasized the importance of deepening future cooperation.
Mrs.Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and representatives of relevant services of the Ministry attended the meeting.
