A wrapping-up meeting was held as part of the ongoing National Forestry Program (NFP).

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, attended the workshop held as part of the ongoing National Forestry Program (NFP). 

 

During the meeting, the partners supporting the development of the forestry sector in Georgia presented the activities implemented in 2023 and plans for the future. The parties discussed the operational level criteria and indicators of sustainable forest management elaborated by the National Forestry Agency.

‘’We reviewed the results of the forestry sector reform and plans within the ongoing National Forestry Programme. Forestry sector reform has moved from the regulatory framework development phase to its implementation phase, which also requires the active participation of all involved parties. Therefore, it is essential to mention that the representatives of public state agencies, non-governmental and donor organizations, and public organizations attended the meeting today. I would thank our friendly countries who are actively supporting us in establishing sustainable forest management and developing the forestry sector", said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

During the meeting, the forest management bodies presented a report on forestry and agricultural measures implemented in 2023, forest inventory, forest restoration, and forest use-related issues. The parties got acquainted with the research conducted by the Ministry on floodplain forests. Partner organizations highlighted already implemented current, and planned projects.

 

The meeting was held with the technical support of the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
