Solomon Pavliashvili runs meetings on waste management and circular economy-related issues in Belgium.

Within the framework of his visit to Belgium, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, met with the Head of the Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DGA1 NEAR) of the European Commission Mr. Matthew Buske, and the Head of the Directorate General for Environmental Affairs (DGA1 ENV), Mr. Devor Pekan.

 

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili summarized the reforms implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in the waste management and circular economy areas and thanked the European Union for its support.

Georgian delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, representatives of Extended Producer Responsibility organizations, including the Deputy Minister.

 

"The delegation comprising of private sector EPR organizations demonstrates the Georgian government's readiness to implement green transformation and promote economic development through a circular model," said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.
The high-ranking representatives of the European Commission positively assessed the progress achieved by Georgia and emphasized the achievements in the European integration process.

"The candidate status is a great responsibility for the country while also creating new opportunities. Georgia should start working towards EU membership, which requires a significant transformation of economic development and bringing it closer to the requirements of the European market and the EU's environmental policy," said Mr. Matthew Buske, Head of the European Commission's Directorate General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DGA1 NEAR).


Deputy Pavliashvili, together with the members of the Georgian delegation, visited the EPR organizations and waste processing companies, where parties discussed waste management in EU countries and the adoption of the EPR and circular economy model in the country.
