Otar Shamugia participated in the Ministerial held at the initiative of Japan in Dubai.

Within the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28), the Ministers of Environmental Protection and high-ranking officials from different countries worldwide participated in the meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The meeting was held at the invitation of Mr. Ito Shintaro, Minister of Environment of Japan.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Otar Shamugia, delivered remarks at the high-level meeting, where he positively assessed the cooperation between the Governments of Japan and Georgia under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).

 

"In 2022, the Governments of Georgia and Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand cooperation against climate change and create a joint crediting mechanism. It is planned to establish a joint committee comprising officials from both Governments. The committee will have the mandate to implement the joint crediting mechanism. Moreover,  we are planning a joint committee meeting to formalize the project cycle procedures, which will allow us to conduct the first emission reduction projects in Georgia under the JCM scheme, ‘’ said Mr. Shamugia.

 

The United Nations Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP28) is a multilateral decision-making platform on climate change issues, embracing almost all countries worldwide. 

 

More than 100,000 delegates participated in the ongoing conference in Dubai. The Conference hosted various events, including the Leaders' Summit, Ministerial meetings, bilateral meetings, and negotiations. The First Deputy Minister, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) together with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
