The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia participated in the Asian Development Bank event in Dubai.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, participated in the Asian Development Bank event held within the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28).

 

The event was dedicated to sustainable development in the agriculture, food, and natural resources sector.

 

In her remarks, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili focused on the Asian Development Bank's climate-smart irrigation development project, which aims to support the modernization of agricultural irrigation systems and institutional reforms in Georgia.

 

"The mentioned project is the first project of the Asian Development Bank, which will be implemented in the rural development sector in the Caucasus region. The project will ensure local farmers’ access to water and sustainable management of water resources ", Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili stated.

In her speech, the First Deputy Minister emphasized Georgia's climate change efforts, including the progress of implementing the Nationally Determined Contribution and Climate Action Plan,  long-term low-emission development strategy and adaptation plan of Georgia, which is currently being developed, and the ongoing reform on the adoption of the integrated water resources management system.

 

The Director General of the Central and West Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank, the Head of Agriculture, Food, Nature, and Rural Development, the Sectoral Director, and the Director of the World Food Program Policy and Program Division, Food Systems and Sustainability Service, attended the meeting.Â
