Georgia ranks second in the report on the fulfillment of EU Environmental Protection Obligations.

Austria, Vienna hosted the 21st meeting of the Energy Community Ministerial Council. Mr. Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia participated in the Ministerial meeting.

The parties discussed the 2023 report on the implementation of obligations undertaken within the Energy Community, outlining the issues of aligning national legislation with EU sectoral legislation and subsequent enforcement.
Georgia is one of the most advanced Energy Community contracting states in terms of fulfilling current environmental commitments. Moreover, Georgia ranks second in the report after Montenegro on the fulfillment of EU environment protection obligations and is ahead of other candidate countries.

Based on the report, Georgia made steps forward by adopting the Law on Industrial Emissions and achieved significant progress in the environmental area. The representatives of the European Commission welcomed the given report and emphasized its importance. 
As mentioned, Georgia is the only country in the Energy Community that has approved a long-term low-emission development policy aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili expressed gratitude to the Secretariat of the Energy Community and the European Commission for the assessment and the long-term collaboration and support for environmental reforms.

 

The Deputy Minister stated that Georgia is actively working on fulfilling its environmental obligations in the  European integration process, including the protection of biodiversity, adopting a new system of environmental responsibility, and controlling industrial emissions.
Representatives of the European Commission, Ministers of Energy and Environmental Protection of the contracting states of the Energy Community and other high-ranking officials, the Director of the Energy Community, and representatives of the Secretariat participated in the Ministerial meeting.
