A Seminar was conducted on the Transition to a Circular Economy

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, attended the seminar "Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Requirements" organized under the "Governance Reform Fund" (GRF) project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) sub-project "Supporting the Government of Georgia in Enhancing Governance & Policies for a Transition to a Circular Economy".

 

Dr. Dariusz Prasek, a Doctor in Environmental Engineering, a Member of the United Nations Advisory Board on Circular Economy, and an International Expert in Environmental, Social, and Governance Areas, chaired the session. 

 

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, congratulated the attendees on Georgia's acceptance of the status of a candidate country for EU membership, noting that the work would now be intensified in all sectors critical to the eventual integration of Georgia into the European Union.

 

"We have already started implementing reforms in numerous sectors, including environmental protection, biodiversity preservation, waste management, and many other areas. We are making significant strides towards developing a circular and green economy, and we should try to reduce the pressure on resources as much as possible and develop an economy that balances and protects the environmental and social components. I would like to thank our partners, the United Nations Development Program and the Swedish Government, for their support in developing the circular economy in Georgia," said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

 

The participants discussed the following issues: identifying ESG risks, supporting effective ESG management systems, facilitating financing by providing consistent and reliable reporting on ESG issues; Learning about ESG facts,  ESG investment strategies, EU sustainable financing framework, environmental and social performance standards of financial institutions, requirements of financial institutions in environmental expertise and monitoring fields.
The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Swedish Embassy, and state and international organizations attended the seminar, which was organized by ''Orchis'', in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, within the framework of the "Governance Reform Fund" (GRF) project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) sub-project "Supporting the Government of Georgia in Enhancing Governance & Policies for a Transition to a Circular Economy", which is financed by the Government of Sweden. 
Georgian Society of Natural Explorers “Orchis" implements the mentioned sub-project, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
