The First Public Discussion of the Draft Law "Code of Chemical Substances and Mixtures"

The  Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, attended the presentation and public discussion of the draft law "Code of Chemical Substances and Mixtures".

The draft law was developed within the framework of the projects funded by the Czech Development Agency (CzDA) and the US State Department's Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism (WMDT).

Mr. Pavliashvili thanked his partners for their support.

"The draft law includes the rules for classification, labeling, packaging, submitting the information of chemical substances and mixtures, and also the rules for registration, assessment, authorization, and restriction. The mentioned draft law derives from the obligations assumed under the Association Agreement, and its adoption is crucial, especially now that we have been granted the status of a candidate member state of the European Union. We should adopt a law that will be effective for our country and acceptable to international institutions", said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

The draft law aims to protect human health and the environment from the harmful effects of chemical substances and mixtures, to provide information necessary for the safe handling and use of substances, mixtures, and objects, to promote the use of alternative methods for assessing the dangers associated with substances, to promote the free circulation of substances, mixtures, and objects, the growth of competitiveness and innovation.
