The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture addresses the draft version of the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) document of the draft Law on Biodiversity.

The representatives of relevant agencies of the Ministry and the project "Save Nature - Georgia" attended the discussion.

The draft law on Biological Diversity aims to ensure the creation of legal foundations for the establishment of an effective system of biodiversity protection, long-term preservation, and sustainable management, as well as the fulfillment of obligations stipulated by the multilateral treaties and Association Agreements and ratified by Georgia in the field of nature protection, and for harmonizing the country's policy with European nature protection strategies.

As mentioned, the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) document for the draft law on Biodiversity will help create an evidence-based and stakeholder-engaged document.
In the process of planning changes, RIA allows us to assess the expected results, calculate all possible costs and benefits, identify all affected parties, and evaluate several alternatives for implementing the change to ultimately choose the most effective means.

The ACT company developed the impact assessment document for regulating the draft law on Biodiversity as part of the "Save Nature - Georgia" project of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the International Development Cooperation Agency of the Swedish Government (Sida).

It is worth mentioning that the "Save Nature - Georgia" project has been successfully running since 2021. The project aims to improve the sustainable management of natural resources in Georgia, promote the protection and restoration of biodiversity, and strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry and its agencies. In this respect, several significant activities are being carried out in the country.
