Otar Shamugia: " According to preliminary estimates for 2023, the output of agribusiness products will exceed GEL 16 billion, while exports hit a record of 1.44 billion USD".

The candidate for the position of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  Otar Shamugia, provided a brief overview of the outcomes of the measures implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and submitted future visions at the joint session of the Agrarian Issues, Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy, Regional Policy and Self-Government and Finance-Budget Committees.

"As you are aware, agricultural development is one of the top priorities for our Government. The output and export indicators of agribusiness products are annually increasing due to the implemented policy.
According to preliminary estimates for 2023, the output of agribusiness products will exceed GEL16 billion, while exports have hit a record of USD 1.44 billion, 15% more than the number for 2022, with 180% growth in the past 12 years, implying that exports have increased almost three times. It is worth mentioning that the export of wine and alcoholic drinks totaled USD 455 million in 2023 and is currently 16% more than the same indicator in 2022," said Mr. Otar Shamugia. 

According to the candidate for the Minister, in 2024, the Rural Development Agency will implement at least fifteen different programs, which include financing almost all links of the value chain. According to the 2024 budget, GEL 330 million is allocated for the mentioned programs.
