The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reviews an action plan for implementing EU recommendations.

Mr. Otar Shamugia, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, got familiar with the progress of the action plan for implementing the EU recommendations. The discussion covered current challenges in the respective area and future actions.

The Minister emphasized the role of the EU recommendations for the country.

"The status of candidate for the European Union is a significant step forward in our country's integration into Europe. We continue to work towards fulfilling our commitments. As of today, out of the 27 environmental regulations stipulated by the Association Agreement, legislative approximation has already been implemented with 20 legal acts, and active work is underway to approximate 7 legal acts. Within the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement with the European Union, out of 200 legal acts of the European Union, the legislation of Georgia has already approximated to more than 130 normative acts covering various issues in food safety, veterinary medicine, and plant protection fields, most of which have come into force, Mr. Otar Shamugia said.

The First Deputy Minister, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Ministers, Mr. Kakha Kakabadze and Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, and representatives of relevant departments within the Ministry's system attended the meeting.

  The conversation covered agriculture and rural development-related issues, food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy,  creating a land parcel identification system and strengthening laboratory testing capacities across the country, steps for enhancing administrative and inspection capacity in the environmental and climate sectors, Law of Georgia "On Water Resources Management," -based on EU water legislation, measures for providing environmental information to the general public, the steps towards air quality improvement, including the law on " Industrial Emissions" adopted by the Parliament of Georgia, waste management related issues, updating the Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
