The working meeting was held to discuss forestry sector reform-related issues.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia attended the working meeting on the forestry sector reform-related issues.Â
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the actions that will be conducted in response to the results of the national forest inventory, including the 2024 action plan, strategic directions, and overall reform progress. As mentioned, preparing forest management plans, increasing the scope of forest restoration, and improving the mechanism for supplying wood resources to the people, remain the top priorities.
" Our top priority is the effective implementation of the Forestry Code and the development of the forestry sector to maintain and improve quantitative and qualitative indicators of our forests. To support the forestry sector reform, we actively continue to cooperate with international partners to overcome the existing challenges and achieve positive results even faster" noted the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia.
It should be mentioned that significant steps have been taken in recent years to improve sustainable forest management. The National Forestry Agency conducted forest inventory works on more than 700,000 hectares. Every year, the volume of forest restoration efforts increases. This year, 54 "business yards" have already been organized, and an additional 16 "business yards" will be set up across the country. The regional forestry services of the Agency received special equipment necessary for forestry work to increase the effectiveness of their activities.
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister Mr. Kakha Kakabadze, and the Heads of relevant structural units of the Ministry attended the working meeting.
