Tengiz Nasaridze: "Engagement of the Civic Sector in the Agricultural Development is Crucial''
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze, attended the session of the Civil Committee of the Interagency Coordination Council for Agriculture and Rural Development. Â
It is worth mentioning that the Civil Committee aims to enhance cooperation with the civic sector following the current EU member state practices and seeks to improve the planning and implementation of agricultural and rural development policies.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues regarding stimulating the development of local entrepreneurship, improving the socio-economic condition of the rural residents, and adopting climate-friendly production practices.
"With the representatives of sectoral associations, we discussed topical issues that meet the needs of the agricultural sector and are supported by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program. Civic sector engagement is crucial in identifying challenges and resolving problems. We will reach optimal solutions by discussing current issues", Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze said.
During the meeting, the parties discussed two new programs: "Implementation of the LEADER/CLLD approach-based local support program in Georgia’’ and "Cattle breeding development program", including the new and ongoing programs of the Rural Development Agency.
"The civic sector plays a crucial role in the rural and agricultural policy development process between Georgia and the European Union, which has been underway for more than ten years. For this reason, a Civil Committee was established years ago, bringing together representatives of the civic sector from different directions," said Mrs. Ketevan Khutsishvili, the representative of the European Union in Georgia.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia organized the Civil Committee session with the EU and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) assistance.
