Public discussion on "Technical regulations on the content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in some paints, lacquer paint, and vehicle refinishing, as well as their import and placing on the market".

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia hosted a public discussion on "Technical regulations on the content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in some paints, lacquer paint, and vehicle refinishing products, as well as their import and placement on the market".
Mr. Noe Megrelishvili, Head of the Ambient Air Division, Department of Environment and Climate Change of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, chaired the meeting.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia developed the technical regulation following the obligation stipulated in the EU-Georgia Association Agreement.

The technical regulation aiming to reduce the dispersion of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) envisages imposing restrictions on paints, lacquer paints, or paints - intended for use on metal or vehicles with a high content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The regulation also includes requirements for the labeling of the corresponding products.

The draft technical regulation was subjected to a regulatory impact assessment (RIA) from Georgian and European experts and supported by the European Union. Several companies manufacturing, importing, and distributing lacquer paints in Georgia were involved in the mentioned process.

The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and manufacturers, importers, distributors, and sellers of lacquer paints attended the meeting.
