Nino Tandilashvili participates in the Steering Committee meeting of the ENPARD IV Project "Support to the Food Safety and the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Sector in Georgia".

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, delivered opening remarks at the Steering Committee meeting of the project "Support to the Food Safety and Sanitary and Phytosanitary Sector in Georgia"- launched within the framework of the EU program - "European Neighborhood Program for Agriculture and Rural Development" (ENPARD).
Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili thanked the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for organizing the meeting and focused on the importance of the project.

"I would like to express my special gratitude to the European Union for its constant and longstanding support in rural/agricultural development and environmental protection of Georgia. Several significant initiatives aiming to promote and enhance our country have been implemented within the scope of the ENPARD program. The current program, which serves to develop the food safety, sanitary, and phytosanitary sectors in the country, is crucial for the effective and timely fulfillment of the obligations. Ultimately, I will add that we have complex work ahead of us to fulfill the recommendations, therefore, the continuation of the EU support is significant for us," Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili stated.

According to Mr. Denis Reiss, Programme Officer for Sustainable Food Systems at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, the project is complex, and its effective implementation will contribute significantly to implementing the recommendations.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the program's achievements and plans for the future, including the effective enforcement of Georgia’s approximated food safety legislation with the EU standards and the importance of increasing the number and quality of inspections.

As mentioned, the food safety systems have improved and will further boost the country's export potential.

According to the Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Georgia, Mr. Raimund Jehle, the project's outcomes will be of exceptional importance for Georgia.

The representatives of the Swedish Embassy and Czech Development Agency (CzDA) and the Heads of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and relevant agencies included in the system of the Ministry attended the meeting.
