Otar Shamugia meets hazelnut farmers participating in the targeted training in the village of Kakhati, Zugdidi municipality

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, emphasized the importance of targeted training for farmers across Georgia, noting that similar activities allow farmers to properly manage the hazelnut maintenance/care process and obtain high-quality products.

"The ongoing training programs organized by the Rural Development Agency aim to deliver sectoral knowledge and information related to real challenges for hazelnut farmers so that they can improve both the qualitative and quantitative indicators of their harvest," said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

According to the Executive Director of the Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association, Giorgi Todua, 10 thousand farmers are involved in the training process, receiving all the necessary information and recommendations on how to carry out agri-technical measures in hazelnut orchards within the respective agricultural timeframes.

"We provide farmers with information about the importance of agrochemical treatment, that should be taken within the respective agricultural timeframes. Harvesting requires the farmer to harvest, properly dry, and pack the produce in the shortest possible time. Taking these steps into consideration will eventually provide us with high-quality products", said Giorgi Todua.
