Otar Shamugia gets familiar with the rehabilitation works at the Yakublo reservoir.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, along with the Mayor of Dmanisi Municipality, Mr. Koba Muradashvili, got acquainted with the rehabilitation works of the water reservoir at the village Yakublo. As part of irrigation infrastructural projects, "Georgian Amelioration" LLC is implementing a GEL 7 million project on the Yakublo reservoir in the Dmanisi municipality.

"For many years, the state has supported farmers in the creation /development of farms, and this assistance continues.

Water supply is vitally important, especially in the face of climate change. Georgian Amelioration spends more than GEL 7 million on the rehabilitation of the Yakublo reservoir. The rehabilitation works ensure the proper functioning of the reservoir. The mentioned reservoir supplies about 3000 hectares of agricultural land with irrigation water", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

The current project entails strengthening the dam's slope and covering it with monolithic reinforced concrete slabs, constructing a 1600-meter-long reinforced concrete wall to protect the waveguide, and installing electric lighting and electromechanical lifting devices on the reservoir regulation tower. The project also envisages the construction of a 1.3 km long concrete road on the crest of the dam. The mentioned works ensure the proper functioning of the reservoir, which supplies about 3000 hectares of agricultural land area with irrigation water.

Rehabilitation works will finish at the end of 2024.

Since 2012, 86 reclamation infrastructure restoration projects have been completed in the Kvemo Kartli region, totalling GEL 70.1 million. As a consequence, 57,300 hectares of land have turned to regular irrigation, and the irrigation water supply was improved to 26,565 hectares.

Currently, 11 reclamation infrastructure projects totalling GEL 24.5 million are underway in the region, which will improve irrigation water supply on 8730 hectares of agricultural land.
