Otar Shamugia: " In 2023, the state spent GEL 14 million to promote Georgian wine. Georgian wine has been displayed at 14 exhibitions, 20 festivals, and 100 professional tastings in 15 countries worldwide.

During the presentation of the 2023 report, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Otar Shamugia, focused on promoting and increasing awareness of Georgian wine.

 

According to the Minister, with the support of the National Wine Agency, the Georgian wine was presented in 15 countries worldwide, including the United States of America, Japan, Germany, France, Great Britain, South Korea, China, and Poland.

 

"The funding and efforts in this area are increasing each year. Regarding the current year, GEL 19 million has been allocated for promoting Georgian agro-food products, of which up to GEL 16 million will be spent on wine marketing and market diversification", Mr. Otar Shamugia said. 
According to the Minister, along with export expansion, it is vital to protect the local market and increase traceability mechanisms. Accordingly, from January 1, 2023, alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia intended for sale on the domestic market will be subject to mandatory certification.


Mr. Shamugia also emphasized the importance of the vineyard cadastre, noting that all EU member countries with a developed wine industry have a vineyard cadastre.

 As mentioned, the program ensures the traceability of grape products and simplifies the crop yield forecasting and harvesting processes. The vineyard cadastre program was successfully implemented in Georgia. More than 48,700 hectares are described in all viticultural regions.
