Otar Shamugia: " In 2024-2027, the average annual increase in the output of agribusiness products is expected to reach approximately 10%, and by 2027, it will amount to at least GEL 24 billion".

"Granting Georgia the candidate status was a historic moment. We actively continue working on fulfilling the obligations taken under the EU Association Agreement.
To fulfill the recommendations of the European Commission, we approved the 2024-2027 action plan, which identifies actions and needs that are essential for fulfilling the recommendations", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, during the presentation of the 2023 report.

Mr. Shamugia stated that several institutional changes are underway, aiming at introducing European management standards in the agricultural and rural development policy in Georgia, considering the requirements of the EU regulations.

In 2024, specific activities will be launched to transform the Rural Development Agency into a European-type paying agency. As a result of the reform, more support mechanisms focusing on diversification, inclusiveness, and efficiency will be available to farmers and entrepreneurs involved in agribusiness.

According to the Minister, today, in the second reading, the draft law was discussed and supported, on which the Ministry actively collaborated with the Agrarian Issues Committee, and ultimately, the draft law ‘’ on Agriculture and Rural Development of Georgia" was prepared. The adoption of the mentioned law is vital for the field's further development, and at the same time, it is an essential step toward closer alignment with the EU legal framework.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia will actively continue to provide targeted support for each component of the agricultural value chain in response to the field-related needs and challenges.

The Government has already approved the 2024-2027 Action Plan of the Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy of Georgia, which includes 88 different activities to implement in the next four years, with a budget of over GELfour billion.
Ultimately, the average annual growth of agricultural output in 2024-2027 is expected to reach approximately 10%, and by 2027, it should expand to at least GEL 24 billion," said Mr. Otar Shamugia.
