Otar Shamugia: "Approximately 51 active enterprises are subject to continuous self-monitoring of emissions of harmful substances; 31 of mentioned businesses have already registered in the electronic system of the Ministry, while 11 of these enterprises are currently installing the equipment’’

" Reducing atmospheric air pollution, particularly in urban and industrial areas, is one of the top environmental priorities of the country, and one of the challenges we face in this direction is related to the industrial sector", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture during the presentation of the 2023 report to the Parliament of Georgia.

According to the Minister, large industrial enterprises were assigned to deploy a continuous self-monitoring system to control the emission of harmful substances into the atmospheric air. At this stage, out of 51 active enterprises subject to self-monitoring, 31 enterprises are registered in the electronic system of the Ministry, and the remaining

 

11 enterprises are currently installing the equipment. Moreover, the large industrial facilities are under control, and monitoring of compliance with air protection law is in progress. Since the mentioned regulations came into effect, several enterprises have been inspected.  Overall, 92 facts of non-compliance with continuous self-monitoring and air protection requirements have been identified, and legal measures have been put into effect.

" 2023–2025 ambient air quality management plan for the central zone was developed, including the city Rustavi. One of the primary goals of the action plan remains to reduce pollution from the industrial sector, with an implementation budget of GEL88 million.
It is worth mentioning that the ‘’2020-2022 Action Plan for the Improvement of Air Quality in Rustavi ’’has given us quite a good result in this direction since the level of atmospheric particulate matter has decreased in the city," said Mr. Otar Shamugia.
