Otar Shamugia: "From September 2023, the control of the visible emissions from vehicles on the road began in 4 cities - Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi and Rustavi".

"More than 5,000 vehicle owners were fined for non-compliance with the emission standards set limits. Last year, the export of catalysts from the country was banned to combat the harmful practice of removing catalysts from cars," said Mr. Otar Shamugia during the presentation of the  2023 report.



According to the Minister, 2023 was also a successful year for expanding the atmospheric air quality monitoring network. The existing monitoring network expanded with nine new stations, and 18 air quality monitoring stations operate across the country.
 By 2026, the number of stations will increase to 27, and Georgia will have an air quality monitoring system fully compliant with European standards
