Otar Shamugia: " Legal regulation of Waste management has been created in compliance with European standards’’.

According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  Otar Shamugia, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system operates in the country for the management of four specific types of waste: 1. tires, 2. oils, 3. batteries, and accumulators, 4. electrical and electronic devices. Four EPR organizations have been authorized to carry out the separate collection and processing of the waste. The EPR electronic register is also functioning in the country.

 

"Currently, there are 12,800 registered manufacturers. In 2023, EPR organizations collected and processed over 11,200 tonnes of specific waste. It is important to continue implementing the separate system of specific waste collection throughout the country and expand the list of specific wastes that will be subject to separate collection", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.
