International financial institutions reviewed current initiatives in the water resources field in Georgia as successful examples.

During the ''11th meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water'' in Brussels, the representatives of International financial institutions reviewed the water resources projects in Georgia as successful examples.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, participated in the plenary discussion at the regional meeting and session of the EU’s Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries.
The regional meeting aimed to share information on water resource management, financing challenges, and opportunities in Eastern Partnership countries,  also to find effective ways to attract investments and foster dialogue between the public and private sectors.

Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and other high-ranking officials of Eastern Partnership countries and EU member states participated in the event, along with representatives of the European Commission and international financial institutions.
Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili discussed the initiatives in Georgia undertaken to promote effective management of water resources, emphasizing the significance of the legislative amendments based on the relevant EU directive.

 

The First Deputy Minister underlined the importance of transitioning to river basin management principles for ensuring sustainable management of water resources.


The regional meeting was held under the auspices of the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), with the support of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the World Water Council, and the World Bank.

 

Notably, the Round Table on Water Financing is a platform for global public-private dialogue.

 

The Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mrs. Mzia Giorgobiani, attended the meeting and participated in the panel discussion, where she discussed already implemented and current projects, plans, and needs for setting up water supply and drainage systems.
