The members of the intergovernmental group discuss chemical safety-related issues

The intergovernmental group created within the project "Institutional Capacity Building for Chemical Safety and Security in Georgia" held a working meeting where parties discussed the issues of developing and implementing a national legislative framework necessary to fulfill all the requirements under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, addressed the parties, emphasizing the significance of the mentioned project.

"This project is of the utmost importance for the country since strengthening Georgia's institutional capacities and legislative base in the chemical safety area is a priority part of the sustainable development agenda of Georgia," said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

Since 2022, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has been implementing the project "Institutional Capacity Building for Chemical Safety and Security in Georgia" with the support of the Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism (WMDT) of the US State Department, and the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus).

The 3-year project, with a budget of 1,500,000 USD, aims to strengthen the legal framework and institutional capacity in the chemical safety area, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, improve chemical substance management systems, and fulfill international and national obligations in the environmental protection field.
