Otar Shamugia: "This year, we expect good yields in all major crops we produce’’.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, along with the State Representative of the Imereti region, Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze, and the Director of the Rural Development Agency, Mr. Davit Tsitlidze, visited the village of Bzvani, Vani municipality, where state officials got familiar with the work process in the processing enterprise of the "Georgian Laurel" company.

" The increased demand for exports has raised the demand for laurel cultivation. This year has had record-breaking exports of USD 20 million in just five months;

A substantial share of total exports from Georgia comes to the Chinese market. This year, we expect good yields in all major crops we produce. I believe we will have a successful year and continue to stand by our farmers", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia.

According to Zviad Shalamberidze, state agricultural programs provided financial assistance for numerous successful enterprises and farms.

The company "Georgian Laurel" has received a substantial grant of GEL 570,000 from the co-financing program for processing and storage enterprises of the Rural Development Agency, which contributed to the employment of 35 people in the enterprise. The company produces about 200 tonnes of dry bay leaves seasonally and exports its products to China.

It is worth mentioning that the preferential agro-credit issued for bay leaf processing had exceeded GEL 6 million throughout Georgia, with the Rural Development Agency subsidizing the loan interest.

In other figures, 269 processing and storage enterprises have been co-financed with GEL 126 million nationwide under the co-financing program.
