The Coordinating Council of the National Biodiversity Monitoring System addresses the process of updating the Red List of Georgia.

The Coordinating Council of the National Biodiversity Monitoring System held the second meeting to discuss the process of updating the Red List of Georgia.

During the meeting, the council members discussed the draft plan for updating national species, which fully complies with international standards.

The process of restoring individual species will launch once the plan is adopted.
Mr. Carl Amirgulashvili, the Head of the Biodiversity and Forest Department at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, chaired the session.

"Updating the national red list is crucial for protecting our country's biodiversity. In collaboration with scientists and experts, a research-based list will be determined. It is worth mentioning that the Parliament has started considering the proposed draft law on biodiversity. Once the law comes into force, the conservation status of the species in the country will be identified following international standards," said Mr. Carl Amirgulashvili.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of special support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF), and the Swedish government (SIDA) in the preservation, conservation, and monitoring of the country's biodiversity.Â
