The Fourth Plenary Session- dedicated to the ''National Roadmap for Georgia's Transition to a Circular Economy''.

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, participated in the meeting, where he emphasized the importance of creating a National Roadmap for transitioning to a Circular Economy model.

" The circular economy is a waste management platform on which we have been actively working for the past four years. Of course, we face numerous challenges throughout the implementation phase, although, we gradually move forward. The national strategy will be based on the roadmap for the transition to the circular economy. The roadmap will include the program and we will determine the further measures," Mr Solomon Pavliashvili noted.

Today, environmental pollution and climate change are global challenges. With the European Green Deal, the European Union is establishing new approaches, which Georgia shares and gradually introduces in several areas. Moreover, transitioning to a circular economy requires fundamental, systemic changes in production and consumption practices by adopting a sound policy and regulatory framework. The Government of Georgia has begun drafting the national circular economy roadmap as a strategic plan to facilitate the transition to the circular economy. The roadmap outlines the long-term vision and key initiatives to achieve it. The respective document -based on the EU Circular Economy Action Plan 2020, is an essential part of the European Green Deal.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Georgian Society of Natural Explorers “Orchis" organized the fourth plenary session through the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and financial assistance from the Swedish government.
