Otar Shamugia visited the trout incubation farm in the Keda Municipality.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, along with the Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Mr. Zaza Shavadze, visited the trout incubation farm in the village of Tsoniarisi, Keda municipality. The mentioned farm belongs to the "Foregi" Organic Aquaculture Association.

"Georgia has a great potential for aquaculture development. Our goal is to facilitate this process to the greatest extent possible. We have taken crucial steps in this direction. The first and foremost is the adoption of the law that came into force last year. Moreover, we have implemented several reforms and regulations, resulting in exporting the Black Sea fish and fish products to the EU market without any delays.
We continue this process and have already elaborated the aquaculture development strategy and an action plan, outlining the actions and measures for the next four years. Moreover, we have presented the mentioned documents to the representatives of the sector and associations; thus, currently, we expect them to present effective proposals. The state is ready to support entrepreneurs,   increase the production in the country in the future,  and enable standards to meet the European requirements", said Mr Otar Shamugia.

According to Sopo Diasamidze, the Chair of the Organic Aquaculture Association "Foreji", the trout incubation farm was established in the Keda Municipality in 2019. The Association aims to promote the sustainable development of aquaculture in Georgia and achieve profitability in fish farming by considering the entire value chain cycle. Throughout the year, the farm produces about a million trout alevins with the highest immunity, which are further transferred to farms of association member farmers. This approach enables farmers to reduce losses from 50% to 5%.
