Wheat harvesting is in full swing in the Kakheti region.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Otar Shamugia, the State Representative of Kakheti, Mr Giorgi Aladashvili, and the Mayor of Dedoplistskaro Municipality, Mr Nikoloz Janiashvili got acquainted with the wheat harvesting process while meeting local farmers in the Kakheti region.

"This year, we have a considerably better harvest than the previous year. In terms of yield per hectare, we will achieve a new record in 2024 with more than 3 tonnes, which we have not seen in previous years and is quite impressive. We assist wheat growers in several ways, including providing equipment.

The state assistance included up to 60 new combine harvesters brought into the country. Farmers did not face a problem in this area and received the service on time," said Mr Otar Shamugia.

According to Nikoloz Janiashvili, Mayor of Dedoplistskaro municipality, the local government, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, is actively involved in the current process to ensure that farmers receive the best possible assistance and organize wheat collection and storage.

Minister Shamugia inspected the wheat crop of farmer Nugzar Alughishvili and participated in the wheat harvesting process. The farmer has sowed wheat on 700 hectares.

Nugzar Alughishvili used preferential agro-credit amounting to GEL 100,000 to cultivate annual crops. Through the mentioned program, he took an agro credit of GEL 563,000 and purchased four tractors.

According to farmer Nugzar Alughishvili, if harvest reached 3 tonnes per hectare last year, this year will receive 4.5 tonnes per hectare, noting that favourable climatic conditions and using proper equipment resulted in increasing crop yield.

It is worth mentioning that a coordination group has been created in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, which includes representatives of relevant structures.
