Under the decision of the Government of Georgia, a state subsidy program will be implemented to support the grape harvest 2024
" We aim to ensure the full handling and storage of harvested crops, producers to sell grapes without disruptions, and the wine sector to continue its steady growth," said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Otar Shamugia, at the end of the Government session.
Â
Under the decision of the Government of Georgia, the companies purchasing and processing at least 100 tonnes of Rkatsiteli grapes during harvest will receive the state subsidy and pay GEL 1 to the growers per kilogram of grapes. In the Kakheti region, companies will receive a subsidy of 20 tetri per kilogram of Rkatsiteli grapes grown by local vineyards.
The Minister wished good luck to winegrowers and wine producers, stating that the forecasted grape harvest in 2024 reaches 300 thousand tonnes.
Â
"For more than ten years, we have been actively supporting the development of the viticulture and wine industry, and we are implementing several programs in this direction, as the Prime Minister discussed in detail. During this period, the volume of processed grapes increased five times, and exports increased four times. In 2023, the export of wine and spirits amounted to a record figure -USD 455 million.
Â
The geography of exporting countries has increased from 43 to 66. In recent years, winegrowers have been earning up to GEL 300 million annually from the sale of grapes, and we think this income will be even higher this year. Of course, all this resulted from the active cooperation of the state and the private sector and the implementation of supporting programs from our side. We continue to support the industry", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.Â
