The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, learns whether companies in the Kakheti region are prepared to receive grapes.

In 2024, the grape harvest is expected to reach a record of around 300 thousand tonnes.

At this stage, the number of registered companies, including medium and small-sized wine-producing companies, has reached 3000 in the country, with more than 500 enterprises engaging in the grape-receiving process.

It is worth mentioning that in 2012, only 40 wine-producing companies were registered in the grape harvesting process.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, visited the "Winery Jobava" in Shielda,  Kvareli municipality.

According to Besik Jobava, the company director, during the 2024 harvest season, up to 300 tonnes of grapes will be purchased from winegrowers and processed apart from those harvested from their vineyards.

"Winery Jobava" is located in Kvareli Municipality, in the village of Shielda, and produces 1,200,000 bottles of wine annually; the respective company benefits from the preferential agro credit program. From September, the first export batch will be sent to European countries, and from 2025, Israel and the United States of America will be added to the list of exporter countries.

Under the decision of the Government of Georgia, during the 2024 harvest, all those companies that will purchase and process at least 100 tonnes of Rkatsiteli grapes grown in the Kakheti region will receive a state subsidy and will pay at least GEL 1 to those who deliver 1 kg of grapes.

The subsidy given to companies is GEL  0.20 per 1 kg of Rkatsiteli grapes in the Kakheti region.

The coordination headquarters have already opened in Telavi to ensure an organized harvest. The vintage coordination headquarters and the hotline of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture (1501) operate 24 hours a day.
