The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia meets Juhani Damski, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, Finland.
The Ministry of the Environment of Finland hosted the meeting with Minister Shamugia and Mr. Juhan Damski, where parties addressed existing and future bilateral collaboration in the environmental and climate change areas.

The parties focused on the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Environmental Agency of Georgia and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The respective Memorandum envisages cooperation in the meteorology, climatology, and environmental areas by contributing to the deepening of existing bilateral cooperation, the modernization of meteorological and environmental observation networks, updating laboratories in Georgia, and the development of weather, climate, and air quality modeling and forecasting systems.
" Environmental protection is one of the top state priorities in Georgia; budget funding has increased respectively and reflected in specific results regarding adopting international environmental standards, including legislative convergence, and strengthening institutional capacities. Moreover, Georgia has made significant progress towards legislative convergence envisaged by the EU-Georgia Association Agreement in environmental management, air quality/water resources management, waste management and industrial emissions management, biodiversity protection, and climate change-related areas," said Mr. Otar Shamugia.
Mr. Juhani Damski thanked the Minister for visiting Finland, pointing out that the environmental reforms carried out by the Government of Georgia are very impressive and commendable.
"We are ready to support you, and we are mostly delighted with the recent bilateral collaboration between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Institute of Meteorology of Finland. The Finnish Institute of Meteorology is one of the most cutting-edge meteorological institutes worldwide. Our specialists will help Georgia in developing modern systems. We are also ready to support the current environmental reforms in Georgia in different areas, including promoting green economy growth, adopting circular economy principles, etc. It is worth emphasizing that Georgia has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 since it aligns with the agenda of the EU, and we are ready to share our experience in the mentioned area as well", said Mr. Damski.Â
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr.Nino Tandilashvili, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr. Irakli Khutsurauli and Head of the National Environment Agency, Mr.Vasil Gedevanishvili attended the meeting at the Ministry of Environment of Finland. Â
