Otar Shamugia: "Approximately 10-11 thousand tonnes of grapes are processed daily"

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  Otar Shamugia, visited the Kakheti region.

"At the grape harvest coordination center, we welcomed the Prime Minister and gave the Head of Government an update on grape harvesting-related issues. I would point out that we made our best efforts, and will continue in the future, to ensure that the harvest proceeds successfully,  which includes supporting winegrowers in fully harvesting their crops and getting adequate income", said Minister Shamugia.

According to the Minister, the harvest is in full swing and proceeding smoothly, with approximately 10,000 to 11,000 tonnes of grapes being processed daily.

"At the moment, approximately 150 thousand tonnes of grapes have already been processed. In collaboration with the local government and relevant services, the grape coordination center operates 24 hours a day and coordinates the process to the greatest extent possible.

The Prime Minister made a significant decision about the timely delivery of Saperavi grapes. Therefore, the state enterprise is currently receiving grapes at 18 locations. We will compensate growers 1.50 GEL per kilogram for Saperavi grapes. It is significant to mention that the National Wine Agency will also compensate winegrowers who delivered Saperavi grapes at a lower price before September 14. Appropriate procedures are currently in progress; once completed, compensation will commence.

The delivery of Rkatsiteli grapes is proceeding successfully, with 60 thousand tonnes already being processed. The minimum price for the Rkatsiteli variety is GEL 1, with a state subsidy of 20 tetri. The average cost of Rkatsiteli ranges from GEL 1 to GEL 1.10," Mr Otar Shamugia said.
