Otar Shamugia: "Investments in the agriculture processing industry are particularly encouraging".

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Otar Shamugia, along with the First Vice Prime Minister, Mr. Levan Davitashvili, and the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze attended the opening event of the new citrus receiving-processing enterprise in the Kobuleti seaside resort of the Adjara region.

According to Mr Shamugia, implementing projects of such a scale is essential for developing the agricultural sector.

"The new citrus processing enterprise in Kobuleti is fully equipped with modern technologies, marking a significant step forward in the agricultural processing industry. Foreign investment has played a key role in this development, which is particularly encouraging. Every year, 10-15 thousand tonnes of citrus fruits are processed in the region.

The operation of a modern enterprise like this is crucial, as it ensures the efficient receipt of citrus from farmers, its processing, and the production of concentrated juice. This juice will be exported to various countries, including EU markets, thereby generating added value. Such large-scale projects are essential for the growth of our country and our agricultural sector. We warmly welcome these investors and will support them in every possible way", said Mr. Shamugia.

It is worth mentioning that the new enterprise will prepare tangerines and citrus juice concentrate for sale and plastic boxes for fruit transportation.

Moreover, the company has a cold storage facility for storing up to 3,000 tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables. This year, the company is ready to buy tangerines from local farmers and process the citrus.

The Georgian-Slovak company Iberia Orbi LTD has invested over EUR 3.5 mln in the venture and plans to expand its investment and product line.
