Otar Shamugia: "The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture prioritizes proper waste management".
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, along with the First Vice Prime Minister, Mr. Levan Davitashvili, attended the presentation at the Kaspi Cement Factory, where representatives from the Hunnewell Cement Company presented the project for using used tyres as an alternative fuel.
According to Mr. Shamugia, implementing initiatives of this scale and importance is essential for the growth of the green economy.

"As you are aware, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture prioritizes the proper management, separation, collection, and consequently processing of waste, using it as a resource, which helps to foster the development of a circular, green economy. We are actively working in this area. We have developed policy-defining documents - waste management code. Moreover, we adopted extended producer responsibility. On the one hand, it is important to minimize the pollution of the environment with waste and, on the other hand, to promote the development of the economy and the creation of added value. Today's project is the best example of cooperation with NGOs. We welcome and support the implementation of similar projects", said Minister Shamugia.

It is worth mentioning that the execution of the respective project will replace expensive, mostly imported fuel - coal; in addition to preventing waste from entering the environment, carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced.
