"Georgia holds an advanced position in environmental governance and the improvement of the standards", - stated the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Dmitry Mariyasin.
ÂDuring the "European Forests" Ministerial meeting in the Federal Republic of Germany, the city of Bonn, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, held a face-to-face meeting with the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Mr. Dmitry Mariyasin.Â
During the meeting, discussions focused on cooperation between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. In particular, the parties highlighted the ongoing project on air protection, which involves joint efforts to reduce industrial pollution. Additionally, active collaboration continues on sustainable forest management, biodiversity protection, and other environmental initiatives.
Mr. Mariyasin highlighted Georgia's significant progress toward the forestry sector, emphasizing reforms aligned with European standards, including the new Forest Code and the National Forest Inventory.
As mentioned, Georgia is well-positioned to improve environmental management and standards, and the UN Economic Commission for Europe plans to enhance cooperation with Georgia.
