The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze, attended the closing meeting of the first pilot project on pasture inventory and planning at the municipal level in Akhaltsikhe municipality.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr.  Tengiz Nasaridze, attended the summary meeting of the first pilot project of pasture inventory and planning at the municipal level in Akhaltsikhe municipality.
As part of the project, pastures were identified and categorized, with their condition and degradation trends carefully assessed.

As stated by the Deputy Minister, pasture management has faced many challenges over the years, with the state planning to address the respective issues by establishing a legislative framework and adopting proper pasture management models.

"The country is embarking on active reforms in pasture management. First, a legislative framework will be developed, followed by a systematic transformation to make pasture management more sustainable and effective through decentralization. Proper care and management of pastures will contribute to their long-term productive use and ultimately ensure an increase in farmers' income," said Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze.

Within the project, pasture management plans were prepared for 15 selected villages in Akhaltsikhe municipality. These plans will contribute to the sustainable and long-term development of different livestock management models.
Based on the results and experience gained, a technical manual was developed to simplify the identification, categorization, zoning, and determination of pasture users in other regions and municipalities.

The Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus) developed the pilot project in Akhaltsikhe municipality as part of the "Dairy Modernization and Market Access Project (DiMMA)," which was funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
