Deputy Minister Solomon Pavliashvili: "The State will Continue to Promote Georgian Tea''

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, attended the Georgian Tea Festival in Mtatsminda Park. The event has been held annually since 2005 to promote Georgian tea and support local tea growers.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister emphasized the state's ongoing efforts to assist the Georgian tea industry, noting that the support will continue in the future as well.

"The Tea Festival is an excellent platform for producers to showcase their products. Our main goal is to boost exports and identify new markets. The state is actively working in this direction. Through the tea rehabilitation program, over 1,200 hectares of tea plantations have been restored. In addition, we support farmers by providing them with the necessary equipment," noted Mr. Pavliashvili, highlighting the government’s initiatives to promote the sector.

The Georgian Tea Festival was organized by the Georgian Tea Producers Association, with support from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The event brought together around 20 producers of Georgian tea and honey.

Mr. Tengiz Svanidze, Head of the Georgian Tea Producers Association, remarked on the growing popularity of Georgian tea in the local market, where it now holds a 25% share.

"Georgian tea, especially in recent years, is of very high quality and highly competitive. In terms of quality, it rivals, and in some cases surpasses, foreign teas. Georgian tea holds significant potential for the country’s economic growth. The Ministry’s support through the tea plantation rehabilitation program has been invaluable in advancing the industry. The state program for the rehabilitation of tea plantations has been ongoing for several years, which significantly helped the development of the industry," said Mr. Tengiz Svanidze.

Producers at the festival also welcomed the event, noting that it provided an excellent opportunity to engage directly with consumers and introduce new products to the market.
